Meet the Chiropractor

David Shapiro is a Hilo chiropractor who serves Hilo and the surrounding communities in HI .

Dr. David Shapiro was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. As a child he climbed trees, excelled in school, loved performing and at a young age - already knew that he loved medicine and music. In high school, he was a Jet in West Side Story and made the decision to pursue Music as a career. He graduated from Cal State University – Northridge with a Bachelors Degree of Music, Opera Performance. After graduation, David performed professionally throughout United States and Europe, singing everything from Mozart to Verdi. A highlight of his operatic career was performing for four years with Placido Domingo and the Los Angeles Music Center Opera.

As an opera singer David’s body was his instrument and he quickly realized how important it was to maintain his health in order to keep his voice in top condition. As a performer, he was introduced to a whole new world of alternative healthcare and preventive medicine, not just the conventional medicine he was exposed to as a child.

After a car accident, David was introduced to the magic of Chiropractic care. When it was time for a change of careers, it was a natural choice to go to chiropractic college, rather than medical school. He studied at the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles where he graduated Valedictorian of his class. He then built a thriving practice in Northridge, California and treated patients for 10 years, perfecting his uniquely gentle style of chiropractic adjustment.

Dr. Shapiro first fell in love with Hawaii when he visited in 1988. He moved to Hawaii in 2006 and now lives on 10 beautiful acres in Lower Opihikao where he is lulled to sleep each night by the sound of crashing
of ocean waves and wakes to the beauty and bounty that is Hawaii. When not supporting the health of his 
patients, you can find David exploring coral reefs and lava tubes, swing dancing, eating sushi, and supporting the Arts in Hawaii.
